KDIGO Mourns Passing of Tess Harris

With heavy hearts, KDIGO acknowledges the passing of dear friend and longtime volunteer, Tess Harris. In the realm of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) advocacy and research, Tess was an inspiring and admired leader who dedicated her life to advancing PKD care. She was also a catalyst for change, fostering productive communication among clinicians, researchers, patients, and caregivers. Her engaging personality and genuine kindness created a collaborative PKD community that continues to grow and flourish.
Tess lent her expertise and passion to many initiatives. As the CEO of the PKD Charity, Tess championed work aimed at accelerating research, empowering patients, and raising awareness about PKD. Under her leadership, the foundation thrived, becoming a driving force in the PKD community and beyond. As a Work Group member on the forthcoming KDIGO Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) Guideline, Tess was a highly knowledgeable patient advocate whose insights will help shape the ADPKD guideline and clinical practice. Her work helped lay the foundation for future generations to continue the fight against PKD.

World Kidney Day is on March 14, 2024. This year's theme is "Kidney Health For All: Advancing equitable access to care and optimal medication practice."
KDIGO will honor World Kidney Day by releasing the 2024 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on March 13. This global guideline will address key issues and topics related to CKD care and provide actionable recommendations, to improve kidney health for people around the world. Separating Fact from Fiction: The Realities of CKD-aP

Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus, or CKD-aP, is an underreported and underdiagnosed condition, significantly affecting the quality of life of patients with advanced kidney disease undergoing dialysis. Despite its prevalence, there are limited treatment options available for these patients.
This exciting program, which is also available in French, is designed to meet the educational needs of nephrologists, dermatologists, nephrology nurses and dialysis nurses. After participating in this educational activity, participants should be better able to review the pathophysiology of CKD-aP, discuss the symptom burden of CKD-aP on health-related quality of life and patient-reported outcomes, and identify the limitations of current therapies used to treat CKD-aP.
